Now stay at the entrance of the Tabernacle day and night for seven days, and do everything the LORD requires. If you fail to do this, you will die, for this is what the LORD has commanded.” [Leviticus 8.35]
All the details and protocol, no big deal, right? Try telling that to Aaron and his sons!
Why was it such a big deal? I mean, really.
The only reason we would even ask the question above is because we are ignorant of God's holiness. To understand God's holiness would enlighten us about much of the Old Testament. To understand God's holiness would explain much.
We need to understand God's holiness! Everything in life we find confusing are hard would come into clear focus with increased understanding of God's holiness.
God's holiness reveals sin. God's holiness reveals the heart of man. God's holiness explains God's character because everything in His character stems from His holiness. God operates solely upon holiness.
Perfect love comes from holiness.
Perfect justice comes from holiness.
Perfect health comes from holiness.
Perfect provision comes from holiness.
Perfect surroundings come from holiness.
Heaven comes from holiness.
Everything from God comes from His holiness. Jesus came to earth from God's holiness.
Holiness is perfection in every facet.
Jesus walked the earth in God's perfect holiness and instructed us to do likewise:
But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. [Matthew 5.48]
Thank God that Jesus showed us how to live in holiness and paid the price (with His own blood) that we might enjoy the fruits of holiness.
Father, I admit that I have not spent enough time considering Your holiness. Help me today to remain mindful of Your holiness and see how it has been the very source of all You do. And help me then, to see further into the eternal value of Your Son Jesus and the offering He made for my life.
