This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. [1 John 4.2]
I know Christmas has become so highly commercialized that Jesus is often overlooked altogether. The sad truth is, this is just as true among Christians as it is among non-believers. My goal is not to bash Christians here, but to cause us all to think about what we say we believe.
What we say we believe must match up with with what we do.
On this Christmas Eve, this scripture stands out to me from today's OYCB reading. It all comes down to what a person believes about the Christ - the child born in a manger Whose life was foretold by prophets.
Did a virgin really have a baby? Was that child really the Son of God? Was Jesus' life really the way to live for all who will follow? Did the Crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus really save those who will believe?
Does God really "so love the world?"
Of course, for many looking at these questions in this context, the answer is one and the same to all - Yes!, but I must ask myself if my life SHOWS the 'yes' answer!
Is my answer to these questions consistent? Am I steadfast in what I say I believe?
It all hinges upon Jesus and what I do with Him - more correctly, how I respond to Him.
This Christmas Eve is a great time to think on these things!
Father, I want to meditate upon Jesus today. Help me, throughout this entire day, to stay focused on Him and the FACT that He came in a real body.
