“Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. [Luke 12.33-34]
Oh how we justify ourselves and our interpretation of Jesus' words here!
We work our jobs, buy our stuff, have little to no time for others. We are trapped by a society and culture of "stuff."
And then, when a person takes Jesus seriously and attempts to do what He said above, we chide that person for doing so as if we know better and that Jesus did not actually mean what He said.
And, to top it off, we justify ourselves that Jesus did not live in our day - and things are different now.
What are we doing?
Father, forgive me for justifying myself in faithless refusal to live as Jesus said to live.
