Anything Different?

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. [Matthew 5.13]

Salt of the earth, huh? Flavorless salt is worthless.

Does the Church look any different from the world? Really? Are we willing to ask ourselves that question and answer it truthfully?

Are we willing to ask the world if they see anything different?

The thing is, we have already asked the world and they have told us, and yet we failed to listen. How, you might ask, has the world already told us? By their total and complete disregard for the Church and anything to do with it.

Why else would little league ball fields be jam packed on a day that historically has been the day of worship for the Church? Why would dance and cheer competitions be scheduled on Sundays for no regard that people might have other commitments? Why? Because the Church has not stood up and said no!

Furthermore, people's time is being taxed in an unprecedented way. It affects the Church no differently than the world. It is one thing for the world to have no time for anything, but another thing altogether for a believer in God to have no time for devotion - prayer, meditation, study of the Word of God.

Yes, the Church (and that includes me) has lost its flavor.

The big question is: "Can you make it salty again?"

Father, I repent that I have become flavorless in the world today. Please forgive me and restore the flavor to my life as I pray and feed on Your Word!
