Then those who feared the LORD spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name. “They will be my people,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child. Then you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.” [Malachi 3.16-18]
Who doesn't want to see the difference between those who are God's and those who are not?
I know I do!
But what is required to see the difference? It is revealed in the passage of scripture above!
Those who will be noticeable as God's people are those who "...fear Him and always think about the honor of His name."
Thinking about the honor of God's name in everything we do is the complete opposite of what our culture has come to be and do. Our culture has taught us to look out for ourselves first. Our culture has taught us to think about our name - who we are - and taught us to just be us and rejoice in our uniqueness. That all sounds good, but it is not what the LORD desires!
Who we are matters not - except that we are found in God - fearing Him and thinking about the honor of His name!
It is a simple difference in word, but grossly complex in deed.
Father, help us - help me - to forget about myself, fear You (and only You) and think constantly about the honor of Your name!
