Then all the military leaders, including Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, from the least to the greatest, approached Jeremiah the prophet. They said, “Please pray to the LORD your God for us. As you can see, we are only a tiny remnant compared to what we were before. Pray that the LORD your God will show us what to do and where to go.” [Jeremiah 42.1-3]
Yes! The people left in Judah were finally seeking God!
Or were they? No, of course, as the story unfolds, they were not seeking God. Instead, they wanted God to approve of what they had already decided to do (go to Egypt).
And this same thing goes on even today.
Instead of asking God where He wants us to go and what He wants us to do, we tell Him where we are going and what we are going to do AND ASK HIM TO BLESS IT!
How many times do we pray for guidance from the LORD only to refuse to obey it?
Father, I know I have guilty of this very sin over and over. Please forgive me. I want to obey You. I want to be found faithful.
