When Troubles Come: Repent

Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart; I am pure and free from sin”? [Proverbs 20.9]

We all want to be able to say, "I'm okay, I'm good, I don't need to repent."

But who among us really knows their own heart?

The fact is, we all sin. Apart from the saving work of Jesus (His blood shed because of, and for our sin) we are all unrighteous.

There is a humbling realization here for us. There is reason to not to default to our, "I'm okay" response when troubles come our way. There is, and always will be until Jesus returns or we are in His presence, reason to repent.

There is simply no excuse for us not to repent when we experience troubles. Troubles say, "something is wrong." Elsewhere in Proverbs it is written that the curse will not come without cause:

Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim. [Proverbs 26.2]

We have only one course of action when troubles come our way: REPENT.

Father, help us to understand the obvious indicators in our lives that call us to repentance!
