What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. [Isaiah 5.20]
Here is the scripture that really stands out in my mind when I think of all the silly things religious people say when they encounter trouble and say it is some kind of blessing from God.
Instead of repenting for sin (the very reason trouble comes) people would rather call evil good and good evil. Why? Because of pride (not only a sin in itself, but the greatest of sins).
I understand how this must make people feel. Sinful. But the rules are not mine - I did not write the Bible. The curses for disobedience are just that: curses for disobedience! God did not design curses to be blessings. He reserved blessings for that - and blessings are reserved for obedience.
So, when curses comes in all their trouble, suffering, and loss, we have only one conclusion to draw: there is sin that needs to be repented of.
It does not matter whether we immediately know our sin or not. Suffering indicates it is there (read the book of Job) and it will not be remedied until repentance has taken place. God's light will reveal our sin (ours may not!).
Christianity, as a whole, has been infiltrated with erroneous thinking about suffering. It is time that Christians mature-up and face the obvious (based on the Bible). Troubles are the result of disobedience. Let's call it what it is.
Father, help me to be more clear in my devotion to You as well as my advice to others. There is only one remedy for all troubles: repentance.
