Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of King Omri. Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong. He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, just as Ahab’s family had done. They even became his advisers after the death of his father, and they led him to ruin. [2 Chronicles 22.2-4]
Imagine a mother who would encourage her son to do wrong
Evil knows no bounds. Athaliah was apparently the embodiment of just such evil.
It makes me think of how important it is for a parent to realize what they are doing. Do our actions before our children encourage good or evil in them?
Father, may my life inspire and encourage good in my family - even in my grown children as well as my young grandchildren.
