Holiness

While the Israelites were camped at Acacia Grove, some of the men defiled themselves by having sexual relations with local Moabite women. [Numbers 25.1]

It is my understanding that this event was at the encouragement of Balaam. Although the initial story of Balaam does not record that Balaam encouraged Balak to do this (get their women to seduce the Israelite men), this passage confirms the actual event happened and, later passages confirm it was at Balaam’s advice.

So, what is the takeaway from this?

It is simply not enough to ‘mostly’ do God’s will as Balaam did.

Holiness is complete and thorough or else it is not holiness at all.

Father, help me to understand the importance of giving myself entirely to Your will!
