You must diligently obey the commands of the LORD your God—all the laws and decrees he has given you. [Deuteronomy 6.17]
Check this out... Christians today are very quick to declare that Jesus has replaced the law in their lives, right? It is a trade-off of sorts, right?
Okay, so let's replace the law with Jesus in the verse above:
You must diligently obey Jesus—all the ways He has shown you.
Or, how about this:
If you listen to these regulations and faithfully obey them, the LORD your God will keep his covenant of unfailing love with you, as he promised with an oath to your ancestors. [Deuteronomy 7.12]
Or,
If you listen to Jesus and faithfully obey Him, the LORD your God will keep his covenant of unfailing love with you, as he promised with an oath to your ancestors.
See, we are quick to say Jesus redeemed us from the law, but slow to acknowledge that His redemption came at a price - to Him AND to us! That price is the shift of our allegiance from one to the Other - from the law to Jesus. Jesus Himself defined that "cost" in declaring we must take up our cross and follow Him.
Hmmm... Never thought of it like that... But we should!
Father, I have been way to quick to want free of the shackles of the law, but have not done such a great job of embracing the "yoke" and "burden" of Jesus (Who said, "My yoke is easy and My burden is light").
