Non-Compliance

But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” [Exodus 3.11]

For being in the presence of Almighty God, Moses sure seemed to have an element of resistance about him. The verse above is not the only instance where Moses was less than cooperative.

I am just going to 'think out loud' here a moment...

Looking forward to the incident where Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it, I wonder if by that time God had finally just gotten all He could stand of Moses' non-compliance.

No doubt, Moses started off resisting God's directions.

There is probably much to learn of Moses'character from the readings ahead. And, regardless, how I have tagged Moses here today, he is permanently on record of having been one of the great characters is God's story. No matter what I understand of do not understand about Moses, God had a special relationship with him unlike any other in the Bible.

I guess the point is, God can deal with our character. Oh, He may eventually have to deal harshly with us, but, as we see with Moses, God used him mightily - so there is hope for us.

Father, I would like to think I would be more compliant than Moses given the circumstances of today's reading from the One Year Chronological Bible. But, in reality, I would probably get in trouble even sooner than Moses. Help me to gain more intimate knowledge of how You deal with us and do all I can to work with You and not against You.
