Everything We Need (To Do God's Will)

All whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the LORD. They brought all the materials needed for the Tabernacle, for the performance of its rituals, and for the sacred garments. [Exodus 35.21]

I think I have commented on this fact before, but it is remarkable that the mobile Israelites had all these materials with them! I mean, even considering their numbers, the fact that they would actually have lumber with them amazes me.

My amazement however probably only confirms my total ignorance of what the times and circumstances were like for Israel. It is apparent that the Israelites left Egypt with much more than just backpacks!

The above mentioned conclusion is even more striking in its implications when taking into consideration that Moses told Pharaoh they were just going into the wilderness to exercise religious ceremonies (as if they would return). Pharaoh knew the truth, but he didn't get that information from Moses. But still, would not Israel's wagons loaded with stuff give away the truth? Perhaps the grief of the Egyptians was so great (after losing their firstborn) that they were blinded to what was taking place.

All I know is that the Israelites had enough stuff with them to construct the Tabernacle and more. So much more in fact that the builders had to ask Moses to tell the people to stop bringing materials!

And, here is another interesting fact: It just so happened that everything God meticulously specified for the construction of the Tabernacle just happened to be materials Israel had on hand.

I suppose if there is a lesson here, it would be that, regardless what we might think about our current status and situation, we have all the materials we need to do exactly what God requires of us.

It is worth thinking about, no?

Father, how everything worked out with Israel is pretty amazing. Help me to see and learn the lessons You have for me in this record of Your dealings with Israel.
