And God never said to any of the angels, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.” [Hebrews 1.13]
God declared the statement above to Jesus.
Now, think with me, if God sent Jesus into to the world to do His work (which Jesus did), and God then has told Jesus (now resurrected and in heaven) to sit at His (God's) right hand (and no longer on the earth), who is going to humble Jesus' enemies, making them a footstool under His feel?
Who indeed.
Let 's move on...
And furthermore, it is not angels who will control the future world we are talking about. For in one place the Scriptures say, “What are mere mortals that you should think about them, or a son of man that you should care for him? Yet for a little while you made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them authority over all things.” Now when it says “all things,” it means nothing is left out. But we have not yet seen all things put under their authority. [Hebrews 2.5-8]
So, who is going to humble Jesus' enemies? Mortals.
That's us who believe. We are the ones living on the earth that needs to be subdued. We have some work to do! We have Jesus as not only our leader, but our example how to succeed in this victory campaign.
What follows the passages above is instruction for entering into God's rest. And, following that will eventually be further and likewise instructions but using the word 'faith.'
I am convinced that there is more to this walk with Christ than we are living. I am convinced there should be a little more obvious humbling of Jesus' enemies going on. I am convinced that job is ours as believers today. I am convinced that faith is something we have much much more to learn about.
Father, thank You for speaking to my heart today. I am convicted that I have been living pathetically below what You have called me to live - but not for me, but for others, as Jesus perfectly demonstrated.
