Walk The Walk

Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted. Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good. [Titus 1.15-16]

In the light of a couple different posts this week, Titus 1 really jumped out at me today.

I am thinking right now about James challenging us to show our faith by our works. In other words, don't just claim to know God, but show it!

It is simply not enough to talk the talk. We must walk the walk.

How many times do we encounter '"believers" who say they believe in God but are "not walking it right now"? The dialog here in the passage above is not very encouraging for that person - it says they are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good. Ouch.

I think God has increasingly been speaking to my heart about undivided devotion (that sounds a lot like instruction from the book of James!). He is showing me my divided loyalties and they are not pretty (even though the world and even the Church would not necessarily scold me for it).

Father, please continue this re-structuring of my ideas about You and faith and devotion. I realize I am a long way from genuinely mirroring Christ in the earth - but I want to.
