I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. [Revelation 3.19]
The verse above, as part of the 'message for the church in Laodicea, spoke to me today. Namely, it made me consider a popular saying we hear often today. That saying is, "It is what it is..."
When we hear or say the phrase, "It is what it is," what is implied is that the circumstance at hand is out of our control. While it sounds good to say so, it simply is not true.
Imagine Jesus at Lazarus' tomb saying, "It is what it is!"
Imagine Jesus telling the disciples in the middle of the sea in a storm, "It is what it is!"
Imagine Jesus telling the blind man, "It is what it is!"
Imagine Jesus, our example and savior telling the disciples before His ascension, "There's nothing you can do for the world - it is what it is!"
God never intended for us to look upon our situations and say, "It is what it is." That is indifference and the verse above clearly defines God's disdain for indifference. Furthermore, indifference signals the need for correction and discipline in our lives as loved ones of God.
We must be proactive in eliminating indifference from our lives. It is the only way we will distinguish ourselves from the world.
Father, help me to seek out and get rid of indifference in my life! Forgive me for looking upon any situation with resignation and lack of concern.
