"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” [Acts 1.8]
Think! How much "power" does it really take for Jesus' followers to simply tell what they had seen?
The fact is, none of us really need the Holy Spirit and His power to simply "say" what we saw.
However, if we are to "do" what we have seen, then, yes, it will indeed require the same power behind what we saw! In other words, if we are to "do" the works of Jesus in the earth, then we will very much require the same power that enabled Jesus.
So, you saw a guy raise the dead - big deal! But, when you too raise the dead because you are operating in the same Spirit - now, that is indeed a big deal!
Jesus did not give us the Holy Spirit just to simply say what was seen. Remember, everyone present saw Jesus' works. Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to empower His followers to do the works He did and greater works.
What good is gasoline to an engine if we do not run the thing? Engines to be looked at need no fuel - they need no power. But engines expected to perform work require fuel - power.
The Holy Spirit is the fuel in us to not only duplicate the works of Jesus but to do even greater works.
We are not just to tell about Jesus, but to show Jesus. It's about "show and tell," not just "tell."
If your engine won't start, check the fuel.
Father, I have indicted myself once again today. The implications of what I have written here, if in fact what I have written is correct, are serious. Help me - help us all - to not just tell about Jesus, but show Jesus to the world.
