The Allurement of Money

Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples, and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted, and they promised to give him money. So he agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus so they could arrest him when the crowds weren’t around. [Luke 22.3-6]

Money makes people do strange things.

Money makes people do wicked things.

Greed was Judas' sin. Money was Judas' lord.

Does it not scream a warning to all of us that Judas had a relationship with money that destroyed his life? The love of money is indeed the root of all evil.

What should our response be? It think we should clearly distinguish Jesus as our Lord and not money! There is a very good reason Jesus taught us to "Seek first the Kingdom of God..."

It is appalling how we justify our relationship with money at the Lord's expense. I mean, a person HAS to eat, right?

Seek first the Kingdom of God.

I mean, a person HAS to provide for his family, right?

Seek first the Kingdom of God.

So powerful is the allurement of money that it mesmerizes us. So much was Judas affected that he betrayed the very Son of God.

Do we dare take that same chance by allowing ourselves ANY kind of relationship with money that even slightly takes us away from our Lord?

Father, forgive me for loving money even just a little. I don't want it to have the slightest control over my life and decisions.
