Sunday Dinner

And the Levites, too, quieted the people, telling them, “Hush! Don’t weep! For this is a sacred day.” So the people went away to eat and drink at a festive meal, to share gifts of food, and to celebrate with great joy because they had heard God’s words and understood them. [Nehemiah 8.11-12]

This really is interesting. On a day of hearing and understanding the Word of God (from the Book of the Law), the Israelites celebrated with feasting.

It seems to me that good food is a gift from God. Yes, I like to eat as much as anyone else, and yes, if I repeatedly over eat I put on pounds I shouldn't, but, that does not negate the fact that feasting is very much part of a God-honoring, Christ-following walk of faith!

For those who read this, there may be those who are fortunate enough to have the concept of Sunday dinner as part of their lives. Sunday dinner, in my recollections, always followed church attendance. There always seemed to be something different about Sunday dinner - something better.

It occurred to me today that perhaps Sunday dinner was always better because of it following the Word of God!

To those who have never experienced this, all I can say is, I am sorry. I would recommend you try it!

Sunday dinner. Yes.

Father, I understand how fortunate I am to have, and to have had, Sunday dinner in my life. Thank You.
