The people of Judah were exiled to Babylon because they were unfaithful to the LORD. [1 Chronicles 9.1b]
It is just that simple. Judah went into captivity to Babylon because they were unfaithful to God.
Bad things are designed for disobedient people.
But we don't want to believe that. We, in the Body of Christ, have been infiltrated with teaching that makes bad things out to be random, or worse yet, as acts of God without well-defined meaning or purpose. And, when people view bad things in this way, the one thing that will be missed every time is repentance.
I suppose people are free to believe what they want to believe. Or, maybe people just believe what is easiest for them and requires the least responsibility. This is certainly the case when bad things come - it is far easier just to attribute the bad things to randomness or some perverted view of God, distancing the recipients of the bad things from any accountability themselves. Again, when no responsibility is recognized, repentance is not even considered, much less practiced.
But the Bible stands in stark contrast to these watered-down beliefs about God. 1 Chronicles 9.1 refutes any such notion pertaining to Judah's hard times.
Father, help us to stop making excuses and just repent already...
