“I have not sent these prophets, yet they run around claiming to speak for me. I have given them no message, yet they go on prophesying. If they had stood before me and listened to me, they would have spoken my words, and they would have turned my people from their evil ways and deeds. [Jeremiah 23.21-22]
Question: What is the sign of a true prophet of God?
Answer: A true prophet of God turns God's people from their evil ways and deeds.
It is simply not enough to make people feel good about belonging to God. Is is simply not enough to make people think all is well, singing "Jesus paid it all..." while they continue in sin!
We must stop allowing sin! Any allowance we make for sin in our lives is a slap in the very face of Jesus the Messiah.
Sin is not okay! Sin must be dealt with. Sin must be repented of! That is precisely what it means for God's people to be turned from the evil ways and deeds - repentance. Repentance among God's people is the sign that a true prophet has spoken.
Notice that the highlighted verse here does indeed say "my people." Repentance begins with God's very own.
Father, forgive me for any result of my "prophesying " here other than repentance...
