It's A Mystery

In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign, King Baasha of Israel invaded Judah and fortified Ramah in order to prevent anyone from entering or leaving King Asa’s territory in Judah. Asa responded by removing the silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of the Lord and the royal palace. He sent it to King Ben-hadad of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus, along with this message: “Let there be a treaty between you and me like the one between your father and my father. See, I am sending you silver and gold. Break your treaty with King Baasha of Israel so that he will leave me alone.” [2 Chronicles 16.1-3]

It's just so easy to not believe God.

Even with the great victory Asa had experienced over the million man army from Ethiopia, for some reason, he did not turn to God when Baasha began his advance.

Later, Asa became diseased in his feet - but still - he did not turn to God, but to physicians.

There is much to be said for relying on God. But, unfortunately, there is so much to be lost when not relying on Him.

Why did Asa stop trusting in God?

It's a mystery to me. He was a good king. He produced a good heir to take the throne (Jehoshaphat). It's just that in his later life, Asa did not rely on God. He died a diseased man.

Father, help me to rely on You. In every circumstance, help me to put my complete trust in You.
