You Figure It Out...

But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm. [Proverbs 1.33]

Wisdom speaks.

Today I am almost overwhelmed with all I have read in the first four chapters of Proverbs. The truth that lies in the words of these proverbs is amazing.

I want to point out that those who listen to wisdom will live in peace.

What are we to make of that phrase live in peace? Well, the author of the phrase went on to describe what it means: untroubled by fear of harm.

Perhaps we can find some insight into harm in the verses preceding:

So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you—when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you. [Proverbs 1.26-27]

Hmm, let's see: trouble, disaster, calamity, anguish and distress. But doesn't God sometimes allow these things to bring us closer to Him? Perhaps we better check our theology! The answer is "no" to this question - God may indeed "allow" these things, and they should bring us closer to Him, but they come only because we "asked for them" in turning our backs on Him! So, what do we do when these befall us? REPENT!

Honestly, I did not even start this post with any idea that repentance would come of it - but it did.

I suppose I should not be surprised that writings about wisdom would lead to repentance.

Father, I want to remain repentant before You. No matter what goes on in my life, may I be found humble and contrite.
