You [YAHWEH] give great victories to Your king; You show unfailing love to Your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever. [Psalm 18.50]
In Christ, a descendant of David, all who believe in Him are therefore descendants of David.
All who are descendants of David are anointed and, therefore, are objects of God's unfailing love. They, like David, are given great victories.
Here, as much as anywhere in the Bible is seen Kingdom speak. Regardless of what we know about David in his misgivings with Bathsheba and subsequent murder of Uriah, we know David's life was indeed anointed (physically by Samuel, but spiritually by God's obvious presence with, and power upon him).
Again, as we are in Christ, we are in David, and therefore share in victory and God's unfailing love upon us. It is a Kingdom thing: descendants of a king share in all that is his. David very much revealed this Kingdom principle and Jesus Himself fleshed it out in a New Covenant sealed by His blood.
Yes, David experienced great moral failure. However, Jesus did not! If we were left as descendants of David only, we would be subject to the same requirement of sinlessness that led to great consequence in David's life. We ARE subject to that same sinless requirement, however, in Jesus, not only are we blessed by inheritance, but we are blessed that that inheritance is no longer contingent upon our sinlessness but upon Jesus' sinlessness!
My mind is going a million miles an hour right now...
Father, I am grateful today for Your amazing story - the Bible - that shows me Your intentions toward me and all who call upon Your name. I am Your child - I am Your descendant in Christ. I am Your anointed. I am Your Kingdom representative as instructed by Jesus! May Your will be done on earth, through my life, as it is in heaven!
