What a time David had in establishing the entire kingdom. With Saul dead and Ishbosheth ruling part of Israel, relationships began to suffer resulting in Abner defecting to David, Michal being given back to David as wife (heartlessly taken from Palti), Joab murdering Abner, Baanah and Recab murdering Ishbosheth, David ordering Baanah and Recab killed...
And, I always thought David's adultery with Bathsheba was the beginning of his troubles!
I wonder if, in all the chaos, David became distracted. I wonder if distraction made David more vulnerable to the sin of adultery and all that followed?
No doubt, David was a good guy. But he sure fell upon hard times. And, in those hard times, David ultimately sinned greatly.
Is there a lesson here? I think so. Maybe, it is to take extra caution when distractions arise!
Father, help me to be mindful of the danger of distractions.
