It Matters

David assigned the following men to lead the music at the house of the LORD after the Ark was placed there. They ministered with music at the Tabernacle until Solomon built the Temple of the LORD in Jerusalem. They carried out their work, following all the regulations handed down to them. [1 Chronicles 6.31-32]

For the last couple of days, I have noticed what seems to be a few "chinks" in David's reputation. However, as it is presented today, David was not necessarily in a downward spiral!

So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people. [2 Samuel 8.15]

Trouble does not always manifest itself on the outside. In other words, just because someone looks good on the outside, does not mean all is well on the inside. We must remain mindful that David, as of this recorded time in history, has yet to commit an unthinkable act of murder following his adultery with Bathsheba.

Perhaps the first passage noted above offers some insight into David's success in spite of the darkness looming inside him. Could David's bent toward music be a saving grace in his life? Think about it - it was when David played his harp that Saul was calmed of his tormenting spirit!

These facts open a plethora of ideas and thought patterns worthy of consideration!

Perhaps David should have focused even more on music (as it was offered to God) instead of spending time on the roof!

Or, it could also be argued that had David not focused on the music so much (which obviously pleased the people greatly), perhaps his devotion would have been more on God and not on music (even though the music was about God). Maybe?

Each person who tries to understand this will have to decide for himself. But, as the story unfolds, we still know David does a dastardly deed - why did that happen?

Father, help us to take the facts we are given and decide what You are saying to us through them. It matters.
