Then Moses and Aaron returned to Egypt and called all the elders of Israel together. Aaron told them everything the Lord had told Moses, and Moses performed the miraculous signs as they watched. Then the people of Israel were convinced that the Lord had sent Moses and Aaron. When they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped. [Exodus 4.29-31]
There is something about this passage above that speaks peace to my heart. Particularly, "When they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped."
People need a revelation of God - Who He is - what He does. This was true in Moses' day and it is true now. Right now we all need to know that God is concerned about us and that He sees the misery we go through. And, when we have genuinely understood this, our only response can be to bow down and worship Him.
Now, it is interesting, and certainly noteworthy, that Israel worshiped God after they left Egypt. But it seems more important that they worshiped God before leaving Egypt. In other words, they understood God's love and care for them while they were still in bondage! They realized God's concern for them, and therefore worshiped Him, even while they were still suffering.
It is one thing to worship God after great deliverance, but an altogether different thing to worship Him in the midst of bondage and suffering.
If we can't comprehend God's love for us in our suffering, then may I suggest we really won't have a true revelation of Him in our deliverance?
Oh, there is such a lesson here for us.
In our darkest hours, may the LORD reveal Himself the greatest... and find us worshiping Him.
Father, You are so good. Your story - Your Word - is sufficient for us.
