Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” [Mark 10.21]
Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” [Matthew 10.21]
When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” [Luke 18.22]
I was just thinking about Jesus life and ministry today before I read these accounts of Jesus' conversation with the rich man. I had been considering that Jesus said He Himself did what He saw the Father do. I considered that Jesus was very well-versed in the Bible of His day (the Law and the Prophets). I considered that Jesus quite possibly simply obeyed what He found written in the Word of God about how to live on earth - He looked to the Father in the Word and obediently acted upon what He saw. And there, we have our example.
I will leave it to the reader to decide how this post relates to the scriptures above.
Father, help me, help us, to act upon Your Word.
