“Never sacrifice sick or defective cattle, sheep, or goats to the Lord your God, for he detests such gifts. [Deuteronomy 17.1]
Here we see quite clearly that God wants nothing to do with defective sacrifices. God does not view defects or sickness as anything good! In fact, He detests any gift that is defective or sick.
Now, if God detests sick or defective gifts, what makes us think He would ever give defective or sick 'gifts' to anyone?
Consider Matthew 7.11: So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. [spoken by Jesus]
It is quite the shame that we have embraced bad gifts declaring they are from God! No matter how we spiritual-ize physical defects and sickness, we can never accurately associate them as God's doing.
Here's the deal: It requires no faith or obedience to pray for others (and ourselves) if we simply accept bad gifts as from God. But, if we truly believe sickness and defects are from an enemy, then we will be faced with a "faith" fight that could require great commitment on our part.
Furthermore, it is absolutely blasphemous then to attribute defects and sickness as God's gift! Granted, if we fight with God, we may come away with a limp (Jacob) or perhaps even bad eyesight (Paul), but these were not "gifts" from God - they were battle scars!
Father, it doesn't take a lot of words or explanation to see here what You think about physical defects and sickness. If You detest these infirmities, then we should detest them as well. Let our prayers reflect Your attitude toward these things and may we never be found calling things "good" that You detest! Help us to be faithful to pray for healing when we encounter these things and never embrace them (even if it requires never giving up).
