“Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua told his men. “Be strong and courageous, for the Lord is going to do this to all of your enemies.” [Joshua 10.25]
The five Amorite kings Joshua was referring to here were about to die. Joshua's men had brought them out of the cave where they had been hiding and then, at Joshua's command put their feet upon the necks of these five kings.
This talk was not idle talk either! What Israel did after this day was nothing short of miraculous. The victories that followed this day were sweeping. The conquest was thorough.
If God is for any people, really, who can stand against them?
Father, help me to take very seriously all the promises You have made concerning Your people - starting with Israel and carrying through until now to those who have accepted Your Son. Help us to take heart and be encouraged by Your Word!
