‘Can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone be pure before the Creator?’ [Job 4.17]
If Job was indeed perfectly righteous, then how could Satan have touched him?
Do we not have on record that only God is perfect? (Yes, in Mark 10.18 and Luke 18.19)
Herein lies a great problem: Jesus the Son of God made the statement above (that only God is perfect) as recorded by Mark and Luke. But God made the statement below indicating Job was without flaw:
Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.” [Job 1.8]
I think until we have some understanding of how to reconcile these contradictory statements made by God and Jesus, we will likely not understand much about the story of Job.
Father, I would like to understand how Job could be touted as completely blameless when Jesus declared that only You are perfect (completely blameless).
