Here Is My Faith

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [Genesis 1.1]

There is much left to imagination in the creation story as told by the Bible.

How did God, Who is "the Light" create light?

How was there evening and morning  marking the first day when the sun did not exist until day four?

If God separated the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens, where are the waters of the heavens today?

How did vegetation grow the day before the sun was created?

Then, assuming Genesis chapter 2 begins different perspective on Creation, why, on the sixth day, did God create male and female of all animals and yet pause (albeit temporarily) with only a male human?

Likewise, the Genesis 1 account of Creation says God made animals first, then humans. Genesis 2 implies that the male human preceded all the animals. Which way was it?

The fact is, there are difficulties understanding events of such magnitude besides the difficulties interpreting the ancient language in which the earliest manuscripts were written. Contrast these difficulties with the limitless calculations and difficulties of current scientific theories regarding the origin of the universe and there are ample opportunities to doubt either one!

So. if there exist two polar opposite accounts of creation, both of which contain unknowns, and (like it or not) assumptions, which one will I choose to believe?

I am going to go with the one that has stood the test of time. I am going to go with the one that not only deals with the facts but also the soul. I am going to believe the one that supports "right and wrong" from its origin. I am going to place my confidence in the one that requires decisions on my part about eternity, not just about a lifetime (because if I hold to the one that offers eternity and I am wrong, then I am no worse off if the one without eternal life is right). But, even beyond that, the God of the story of Creation, has changed my life - I know that I know that He is real and that His story - the story of Redemption - tells all and satisfies every question of humanity. There is completeness in this! My God is real and He is right and righteous - and He is much more worth pursuing than the ultimate original nothingness offered by any other theory!

Father, here is my faith. I believe in You. Yes, I have in many ways 'reasoned' my way to You, but that 'reason' requires a lot of faith - and I am willing to spend the rest of my life living that faith out because its results are good just like You are good!
