Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. [James 1.14]
I guess we always want to blame someone or something else for our waywardness... But James is pretty clear that our sin is our doing. Technically, it's not even the devil doing it - all he can do is tempt - it is entirely up to us to let the temptation entice us to commit the deed.
Each of us must come to grips with the fact that when we sin, it is our fault. The desire to sin is within us... just waiting to be enticed. The key then I suppose is to insulate ourselves as much as possible from enticement! But that gets serious!
How are we enticed? Pretty much through all our senses. Think about it, our senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell) can lead us to a lot of wrongdoing. We should be conscious of this fact and remain mindful that our senses, useful as they are, can get us into a lot of trouble. Our senses aren't bad, just gateways to desires - desires that may or may not be good!.
Father, help me to better control my senses in effort to better avoid sin!
