Really Going To Go There?

One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples broke off heads of grain, rubbed off the husks in their hands, and ate the grain. But some Pharisees said, “Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” Jesus replied, “Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He went into the house of God and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests can eat. He also gave some to his companions.” And Jesus added, “The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.” [Luke 6.1-5]

Somehow, it just doesn't seem like Jesus and His guys were really "harvesting grain" by what they did. I am not so sure even the Old Testament supports such a legalistic view - the men had to eat!

Perhaps they were in violation of the Law - I can't say one way or the other - but this story makes me think of all the silly things folks fuss about in the Body of Christ (the Church) today.

How many times do we get distracted with minutia of the Law and totally miss something God is doing?

Father, help me to keep my eyes on Kingdom things and not become distracted with other concerns!
