“Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. [John 6.34-35]
This is so good! I cannot help but believe that Jesus was speaking to this very end also in Matthew 6 where He taught His followers the Model Prayer! Supporting this thought is the fact that after teaching them to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread..." Jesus went on to say that the birds do not worry about food nor the flowers worry about clothing!
Perhaps the "Give us this day our daily bread" part of the Model Prayer (Matthew 6.11) was not at all about material sustenance at all. What if it was only about Jesus? What if we are to pray, "Give me Jesus!" every day? What if every phrase in the Model Prayer is about nothing but Jesus? What a revelation!
Father, help me to process these thoughts from today's reading and arrive at Your conclusions!
