Dressed For A Wedding

“For many are called, but few are chosen.” [Matthew 22.14]

This verse and the story it is part of are tough! If anything in the Bible should make even believers uneasy, this is it.

The fact is, the guy addressed just before this verse was indeed in attendance at the wedding feast - he just wasn't dressed for a wedding.

The story this verse is part of is not really about a wedding though - it is about the Kingdom of God. I wonder if sometimes we take a much too casual approach to salvation by faith in Christ. Sure, it is by grace we are saved through faith, but is it possible to underestimate the significance of this fact? Apparently it is!

I don't think this is indicating how Christians should physically dress but implying that there is more to attending the wedding than just showing up! There is more to being united with God eternally than just making it to heaven! There are apparently crowns to be laid at His feet...

"Not having on the proper wedding garments" could be saying there is indeed a 'preparation' that is part of attending this event. What is that preparation in light of the Kingdom of God? I would think it is participation in Kingdom work! What is Kingdom work? People.

Father, I sincerely want to be part of the few. Help me to be attentive to Kingdom business - Your business - and spend my days here on earth focused on it!
