For Just Such A Time As This

If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” [Esther 4.14]

What if... What if we viewed our lives as having a specific purpose and spent our days seeking to fulfill that purpose?

I am reminded of the 1998 movie "Simon Birch" where the main character of the film, Simon, although severely handicapped, felt his life had a special purpose and, ultimately found his opportunity to fulfill that purpose.

It is this same conviction of purpose that each of us should carry. Otherwise, we are simply living, occupying space, and breathing air.

When a task or opportunity presents itself, it makes perfect sense for us to set about to perform that duty with reckless abandon. Reservation to this resolve comes when we consider our lives our own instead of belonging to our purpose. My purpose is established by God my Creator. I belong to God and therefore to my purpose. If my life is spent fulfilling my purpose, then I have been faithful.

The Apostle Paul had some idea of this philosophy:

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths. But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. [2 Timothy 4.3-8]

Is today the day of my purpose?

Father, I am so convinced today that You have a plan and purpose for each of our lives. Help me to live this day in pursuit of that purpose!
