Two and a half years later, on July 18 in the eleventh year of Zedekiah’s reign, a section of the city wall was broken down. All the officers of the Babylonian army came in and sat in triumph at the Middle Gate: Nergal-sharezer of Samgar, and Nebo-sarsekim, a chief officer, and Nergal-sharezer, the king’s adviser, and all the other officers of the king of Babylon. [Jeremiah 39.2-3]
As predicted over and again by the valid prophets of the day, Jerusalem fell into the hands of Babylon.
The fact remains however that there were many other prophets who were prophesying otherwise. And, until such time as the prophecies were either fulfilled or not, how were the people to know which prophet(s) to believe?
We should all consider the question above with sober objectivity! What do we believe today because we want to believe it? What do we ignore today simply because it is not popular? We should ask ourselves these questions each and every day and adjust our beliefs and thinking accordingly.
Father, help us to believe Truth! Help us to weed through the numerous 'opinions' about You and the Bible and be sure we are believing You and the Bible! Please give us eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to understand!
