Your prophets have said so many foolish things, false to the core. They did not save you from exile by pointing out your sins. Instead, they painted false pictures, filling you with false hope. [Lamentations 2.14]
It has happened - the supposed men of God, as a whole, totally mislead Israel.
Can it happen again?
Most of us refuse to give this second question any thought because it is just too unimaginable. But it could happen again. It may be happening again!
Jesus spoke to His followers of disastrous 'last days' and warned all to be prepared. And yet, there are those who, in the name of God, teach that all will be fine for God's people. Do we really find ourselves choosing between what Jesus said and what modern Bible scholars say? Who is going to win that debate (hint: ask the 'prophet majority' who debated Jeremiah)?
When Christians have stuck their heads in the sand ignoring blatant sin all around them and even allowing it in their assemblies, do they really have the audacity to think and teach that all is well? Let us consider that divorce is as prevalent in the Church as it is out of the Church; homosexuality is fast becoming embraced by the Church... what's next - Church-sanctioned abortions? And, will God continue to look upon His Church in this condition (of disrespecting the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus) and still bless it?
I, for one, do not think so!
Father, I believe the Church is headed straight for hard times and suffering. I believe that any nation in which Your Church resides and has become so worldly will suffer along with her... God help us - God revive us!
