Tools Require Responsibility

But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself? [Isaiah 10.15]

I am compelled today to point out the scripture above as Biblical support that guns are not evil. Guns are in fact amoral. Like an ax, a saw, a rod, or a cane, a gun is a tool. Thank God for the tools He has enabled mankind to have and develop!

All tools require responsibility. The ax can provide all kinds of constructive materials, but it can also be used to behead a human. Like the ax, the saw can also provide many a benefit in building and development, but it can also be used to construct a whorehouse. A rod has many uses for striking objects to move or position them, but it can also be used to beat and/or kill a human. Likewise a wooden cane is irreplaceable for a handicapped or aged person, but it too can be used to inflict pain and suffering on one beaten with it. 

These tools are not problematic at all. It is the hand that wields them and the intent for good or evil of their handler that is problematic and in need of control.

Father, thank You for the tools You have allowed mankind to have! I realize the responsibility for the use of these tools rests upon us. Help us to be good stewards of all the tools You have given us and please You with them!
