Song of Solomon

Song of Solomon 1.1-8.14

I read all of Song of Solomon today with nothing 'speaking' to me from it. So, I read some other information about the book and realized that there are a lot of claims as to its meaning relative to whatever group claims it as their own.

While I appreciate the obvious arousal between lovers defined in the book, I really see no point in its being part of the Bible. The writing itself makes no claim as to its purpose or intention and so, it is purely up to the reader to determine what literal or allegorical meaning is to be taken from it.

It is quite unfortunate that we don't have a thorough understanding of the Hebrew text from which various translations were derived - this would at least help comprehend the book a little better.

The extent of physical intimacy described in Song of Solomon leaves little to the imagination. It certainly applauds the human erotic element.

So, for me and my choosing, Song of Solomon does two things: it ignites visual images of a sexual (and therefore intimate) nature, and, as such, it challenges me to consider how it applies to an intimate relationship with God and He with me (again, simply because I choose to see it that way). And, this is in keeping with those who decided it would be part of the Bible.

Father, I want to learn what I should learn from Song of Solomon. Help me to do so!
