Accept Your Lot In Life

Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. [Ecclesiastes 5.18]

I think one should approach Ecclesiastes with caution. I believe this primarily because Solomon ultimately fell away from God and worshiped the gods of his numerous wives and concubines. But also, Solomon makes a more than a few statements that sound good except that they don't taken into account God (like, humans and animals being the same in death and returning to dust).

However, the verse above is repeated in the first chapters of Ecclesiastes, and it seems to have real meaning. So, whether Solomon was a winner or loser, these words of advise seem solid.

Father, help me to accept my lot in life and not chase after things that add no eternal value to it!
