She exclaimed to the king, “Everything I heard in my country about your achievements and wisdom is true! I didn’t believe what was said until I arrived here and saw it with my own eyes. In fact, I had not heard the half of your great wisdom! It is far beyond what I was told. How happy your people must be! What a privilege for your officials to stand here day after day, listening to your wisdom! Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne as king to rule for him. Because God loves Israel and desires this kingdom to last forever, he has made you king over them so you can rule with justice and righteousness.” [2 Chronicles 9.5-8]
Once again, we see another nice compliment that the blessing upon a person (Solomon) was ultimately not for hgim but for the people. Here in this passage, the Queen of Sheba recognized the LORD's blessing on Solomon's life and how that blessing, in fact, positively affected all of Israel.
Yes, here again, we are faced with our personal life and accomplishments. In order to truly have God's heart for any matter of direction in my life, I must first consider 'the people': What is God doing for His people through my life and actions? What is God doing for His people through His blessings upon me?
Is it safe to conclude that everything God does in the earth is for His people? Is it furthermore safe to conclude that if God's every motive is for His people that our every motive should be the same?
If God's blessings on my life do not, in turn, bless others, have I then really fulfilled God's purpose in the original blessing upon me? Is my blessing your blessing?
Father, I can see again today that my life is meaningless unless it is for Your purpose and Kingdom and people. Please help me remain mindful of this eternal fact and act accordingly!
