May the Lord therefore judge which of us is right and punish the guilty one. He is my advocate, and he will rescue me from your power!” [1 Samuel 24.15 - spoken by David to Saul]
I have noticed in the life of David that he identified God by His attributes. Recently, David identified God as his "refuge." In Today's OYCB reading, David identifies God as his "advocate."
Especially since David had such a powerful relationship with God, it seems prudent that we also recognize God by His attributes!
For some time in my Christian journey, I have adopted the practice of praying through the names (or attributes) of God as they are presented in the Bible. Up until recently, based on a prayer guide from some organization, I have declared God as the following: my righteousness, my sanctifier, my peace, my present God, my healer, my provider, my shepherd, and my banner.
I see however, that God has many other attributes just as noteworthy! To date, I have seen God presented additionally as the God Who forgives, our refuge, and today, our advocate.
In a world that gets a LOT of confusing messages about God and Who He Is, it is wise to go to the Bible to set the record straight!
It is comforting to learn new things about God at the heart level!
Father, You are my righteousness, my sanctifier, my advocate, my peace, my present God, my forgiver, my healer, my provider, my shepherd, my refuge, and my banner! I look forward to learning more about You! Thank You!
