But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness. There must always be two or three witnesses. The witnesses must throw the first stones, and then all the people may join in. In this way, you will purge the evil from among you. [Deuteronomy 17.6-7]
Never did I think I would see Jesus Christ portrayed in the scripture reference above. But today as I was reading, I took just a moment to ask the LORD to allow me to see Jesus in my reading, and realized this was the very place I was reading! And at that moment, I realized that it required more than one witness to convict and therefore condemn the Messiah. A consensus was required. In fact, crowds of people joined in. It was this participation of multiple people in Jesus' trial, conviction, and sentence (misguided as it was) that represented all mankind.
The most profound part of the passage above however is the last phrase: In this way, you will purge the evil from among you. AMAZING! Here is as pointed a picture of Christ the Messiah as any in the Bible! By His death at the hands of 'more than one witness' evil was purged from mankind!
Do you believe it?
Father, I have been repeatedly amazed by the recent occasions I have been allowed to see Jesus in what, before, was 'only Old Testament reading' to me. Help me to avoid ever reading the OT again without searching for Your Messiah!
