The earth opened its mouth and swallowed the men [Korah, Dathan, and Abiram], along with their households and all their followers who were standing with them, and everything they owned. So they went down alive into the grave, along with all their belongings. The earth closed over them, and they all vanished from among the people of Israel. [Numbers 16.32-33]
This well-known incident in OT history carries a lot of meaning. Throughout my lifetime I have heard many lessons taught and sermons preached on this topic. The consequences of rebellion are enormous.
However, this year I am tasked to see how the OT points me to Jesus!
Today, like never before, I am happy to say that I find a picture of Christ in the way these men and their families met their demise. Just as the earth opened to receive the bodies of these rebellious sinners, so the earth received the body of Jesus Christ! The difference is found however in the resurrection of Christ (Korah, Dathan, and Abiram were never seen again).
Father, it may seem a small thing, but thank You for showing me Jesus in the story of the rebel Levites Korah, Dathan, and Abiram!
