“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” [Job 40.2]
Wow! God pretty much put proud Job in his place! And how did He do it? By simply going over His resume'!
For all Job's arguments and his proud claims about what he would do and say if God would listen, his response at the end of today's OYCB reading where God does in fact respond is rather sheepish and humble:
“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” [Job 40.4-5]
This is where we all need to get to in our relationship with God.
So, I am gathering a couple different lessons from Job: 1) God operates at a level all His own (ie. neither Satan nor Job knew what God was doing) and, 2) We will all fare better when we humbly accept the fact of God's superiority.
As a casual observance today, I wonder how any naysayer can really explain the Bible if it is not indeed the book of God? How brilliant would an individual or group of individuals have to be to orchestrate the writings of the Bible into a coherent and consistent theme over the years it covers? And, if the Bible was some human plot, what human or group of humans is at the helm? Just what would that individual or group be trying to control? Morals? And, what is the benefit of that? The questions progress into the ridiculous!
Everything God listed in His resume' had to do with creation and His control over every aspect of life and material existence. Is it any wonder that doubters must try to explain creation (which only naturally has scientific consistency - at least to a point) all the way to the point of origin? And, even in the wildest assumptions followed just to get to the supposed natural origin, there remains the question of ignition or initiation. When a theory surfaces to explain this, and is scientifically provable, then perhaps the doubters can at least have something concrete for which to argue.
There is something here today that I struggle to be able to articulate... There is an answer for the doubter / naysayer / God hater! If a person wishes to discount God and His existence and supremacy over the universe, then what other coherent explanation can he or she offer? Science has figured out a LOT, but is it enough to completely ignore the Bible? I have seen and heard some of the arguments negating God, but I am still going with God.
Father, I believe You and Your book the Bible. I believe Your Plan! I believe I have a part and role in this universe as well as in Your Kingdom. I am satisfied that You are Supreme Creator and Ruler - I need no further explanation because that just gets into wild and confusing speculation. I find no need to explain You away - why would I? Only You have changed my life!
