Spiritual Long Before Physical

Ezekiel.  What a fruitcake, right?  Maybe not!

I am always amazed when I read the first part of Ezekiel's prophecy.  What was the purpose of that initial vision?  Why so much weird (or cool, depending on how one sees it) stuff?

What if the highly unusual vision was for Ezekiel only?  What if it took the "unusual" to get get Ezekiel's attention?

Part of what Ezekiel described in his vision sounds distinctly like what we know today as a gyroscope.  The then-described associated movement of the living beings attached to the "wheel within a wheel" is highly accurate to what we know today about the function and usefulness of such a "wheel within a wheel."  Amazingly enough however, scientific history does not reveal such knowledge until sometime in the 1700's A.D.

Ezekiel had no way of knowing what he was seeing but he went out on a limb and described it anyway.

We however, have here an instance of incredible verification and validification of an ancient writing that prevents that writing from ever being written off as antiquated!  It would have been one thing if Ezekiel described a covered wagon (which has come and gone as history would have it), but it becomes something most intriguing since the "wheel within a wheel" described by Ezekiel remains today as a vital component of highly technical equipment like space shuttles and guided missiles!

And... what's the purpose of a gyroscope?  Orientation and navigation.  Should we think that unusual?

Amazing.

Father, I believe you have intended for Your people to be oriented and capable of navigating through life all along.  I find it relieving that something so purely scientific as a gyroscope was "spiritual" long before it was "physical."
