Meaningless?

That’s the whole story.  Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.  God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad. [Ecclesiastes 12.13-14]

So, does this advice seem to be that of one who was in rebellion to God?  Did Solomon indeed return to faith in and service to the LORD God alone?  Or, was he still worshiping foreign gods as well with his many wives and concubines?

Solomon made many accurate observations in Ecclesiastes.  However, I take pause every time he says everything is "meaningless."  While part of me understands what Solomon is referring to when he says something is meaningless, another part could not disagree more!  However, his conclusions after making such statements is that God is the reason for everything, and so, it would seem he was spot on.  It is confusing.

Father, I feel that while everything has a reason, it still is not as important as simply knowing You and making You known.  Help me to find that balance that Solomon seemed to point out...
