Prayer of Jabez Finally Hits Home

There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers.  His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful.  He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel,
“Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!”
And God granted him his request. [1 Chronicles 4.9-10]

I don't know about anyone else, but this little statement stuck out today like a sore thumb - but in a good way.  I was reading along, truly lost in all the genealogical records of today's reading, literally wondering what in the world I could find to blog about.

Jabez to the rescue!

Even though I have read the Bible through many times now, I can genuinely report that this is the first time that Jabez literally jumped out at me. (I just researched the last few years and found that on this day each of the most recent years, I failed to read or blog - oops.)

Still, this is the first time that Jabez left the page and entered my thinking.  I am fully aware of the 'Prayer of Jabez' fad that passed through Christianity in recent years, but today, Jabez became real to me.  Why is that?

Could it be that the timing of God is always perfect?  I recently left my regular employment and have elected to work independently.  I admit that there are any number of uncertain thoughts that pass through my head every day now!  And then here is that testimony and prayer of Jabez!  It finally hits home!

Father, You are good and Your faithful love endures forever.  Thank You!
